Graduates of the Reading Specialist: Critical & Cultural Literacy Program are qualified for positions across the education sector, including academic support specialist, education programs manager, curriculum developer, instructional designer, and postsecondary teacher. 

Do I have to be a certified teacher to apply to the Reading Specialist: Critical & Cultural Literacy Program? 

Yes. Applicants must possess an Instructional I teaching certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to be considered for admission. Teachers who are certified from other states must obtain a certificate from Pennsylvania before applying.

How long will it take me to graduate? 

Less than one year if you attend full-time. The Reading Specialist: Critical & Cultural Literacy Program runs from August to June. New cohorts matriculate in the Fall, and taking courses out of sequence will extend your time to completion. 

Are courses offered online or in person? Online Program

With the exception of the Reading Specialist Practicum, which pairs students with local educators, all of the coursework is delivered in asynchronous, online environments.
